Pocket change

Kai-LI wanted to give Naomi a kiss and Naomi latched on to Kai-Li's lip! Kai-Li thought is was the best thing ever! lol
I think their profiles look very similar.

If you haven't guessed yet, we not a rich family. And with five kids now it is time to get creative. And the kids really want to go to Disney World. So, we have devised a plan to save up all our pocket change for a year and take our family on a vacation. If the gas prices stay down the ideal thing to do would be for us to drive there and stay with my parents, who are thrilled at the prospect.
I am going to be really curious what our pocket change adds up too. I am getting a big water jug to collect it all in. If for some reason we didn't raise enough money we will be using part of our income tax return to pay for the balance, but I have a feeling we will have more than enough by the time next year rolls around.

That sounds awesome! Jimmy and I want to take the kids to Disneyland (he has family in CA), but aren't sure when that will happen.

Good for you for doing this! I didn't make it to Disney until I was 14 and I feel like I really missed out as a kid. It was so much fun.

That is the sweetest pic!

Admission and food will be a lot. If they let you pack your own food, it might work, though.

OMG. That picture is awesome!

Even without a lot of money, Disney can be affordable for the kind of vacation that you're aiming for. I'd recommend a travel agency that doesn't collect commissions (from you, but from Disney) like Dreams Unlimited to book for you because they can check rates and adjust how much you pay if the price drops after you book. If you go during off season, the rates are awesome if you stay on site at the value resorts because they work out even cheaper than being off sight. I saw rates going for $49/night since the economy is so bad right now, and book 4 nights gives you 3 free extra nights. Plus if you stay on property, you don't need to pay for transportation, just use their bus system (even from the airport)! Howie and I went on a shoe string budget years ago, and we just brought our own food into the parks most of the time.

I'll be rooting for you guys to save enough to go!

Man, you are BRAVE to take 5 kids to Disney World (Land?). We are going to try it this summer with my two and I am already wondering how many tears (and whose) will be shed:)

I love your pocket change idea. We have gone to Vegas before doing that. I bet your family would love to have all the kids down there-what a fun time you will have.

Oh yea, we aren't rich either. When we go to Florida we stay at my FIL's condo (he's a snowbird) for free. Disney is crazy expensive for everyone-you could plan one day around a birthday and do that free day (for the birthday person) they are advertising right now.

We probably would just stay with my parents and buy tickets at the gate, but if it is cheaper to book a hotel, then sure I'll jump at that chance. The money would be for gas or airline tickets which ever is cheaper by next year! lol

What a great shot!

Hope you all make it to Disney world. I can't wait to go too.

I guess you can't beat free lodging with your parents!

I forgot to mention that you'll get cheaper tickets if you check undercovertourist.com before you go because they publish who sells the tickets at the cheapest rates. We found that prices for tickets 4-10 days were like $20 difference (total), whereas tickets for 1-3 days were significantly more. There's rarely ever any discount if you buy at the gate. (BTW, if you go before Bailey turns 3, he'll get in free. Naomi too, of course.)

Thanks Julia for the info, I had better bookmark that site or I'll forget by next year! lol
I am thinking that we willhave to wait until Bailey is three, because it would most likely be around winter break that we would go. Which is Feburuary...I think?
Anyway, the 'rents live about an hour and a half away from Disney, so I am thinking that if we got a nice deal renting a hotel romm or rooms for us to spend a couple days would be pretty fun. If I can talk my parents into it.
